Australian Big Brother star reveals severe scarring from ‘DIY’ TikTok beauty hack
A housemate on Big BrotherAustralia has revealed that she was left painfully scarred after attempting a so-called beauty hack.
Tilly Whitfeld, 21, who was part of the show’s 13th season, told fans that she was hospitalised and temporarily lost her sight in one eye following the botched at-home procedure which she’d seen recommended on TikTok.
She said she decided to open up about the incident after fans kept asking why she constantly covered up her face during her time on the reality TV contest.
In a photo posted to Instagram, she showed how the skin across her nose and cheeks had been left covered in red marks and pigmentation.
In the caption, she explained: “For those asking why I (had) my blue clay face mask on continuously through out the show this is what my face looked like a week prior to entering the house, hence why I always have makeup on and my skin is always covered.”
Whitfeld said the marks had been caused by an acupuncture-style “treatment” she’d seen demonstrated by a TikToker.
She said: “This is the result of attempting to remove scarring I inflicted on myself trying to replicate an at home beauty procedure I saw on a TikTok video two months before Big Brother.”
The hack involved putting needles deep into her skin.
The 21-year-old took the opportunity to urge her 32,400 Insta followers to learn from her painful mistake.
“Please please don’t try any ‘DIY’ or ‘at home’ beauty procedures,” she said.
“I ended up in hospital with temporary loss of vision in my eye due to swelling and was very sick from the infection, not to mention my face was somewhat unrecognisable.”
She went on to warn people to leave such treatments “to the professionals”.
Thousands of admirers flocked to the platform to applaud Whitfield for her bravery.
“You are an amazing human,” one wrote: “I adore you for having the courage and the love to share this.”
Fellow Big Brother contestent Katie Williams added that she was “beautiful inside and out.”
While another wrote: “Good on you for being such a trooper and bringing awareness to not try everything you see online.”
We’ve certainly taken note.
